Bud Kelley Park: An Historic Gem in McDonough, Georgia

 In the heart of McDonough, Georgia, sits one of the town’s most unique and beloved locations: Bud Kelley Park. Established in 1969 to honor the memory of one of the city’s earliest settlers, Bud Kelley, the park has been a treasured haunt for visitors and citizens alike ever since. The park’s namesake, Bud Kelley, was a Civil War veteran who was one of McDonough’s original settlers. As soon as he arrived, Kelley became an influential figure in the city’s growth. He quickly became involved in civic life, was elected County Commissioner, and was instrumental in helping to shape the local economy. After he died in 1961, the citizens of McDonough wanted to remember their beloved leader. With the help of local businessman R.D. Wood, the decision was made to name the local city park after him.  The park is spread across 35 acres and offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. It features a playground, fitness station, basketball court, walking trail, and a pond with fishing docks. There is something for everyone, including children, who can enjoy a full day of play, exploration, and fun. On the grounds, visitors can also take in some stunning fixtures of nature, such as several old-growth trees, plants, and flowers.
